The President's Community-Based Job Training Grants, administered by the U.S. Department of Labor's[1] Employment and Training Administration, strengthen the role of community colleges in promoting the U.S. workforce's full potential. This comparative grant program builds on the High Growth Job Training Initiative, a national model for demand-driven workforce development implemented by building collaborative partnerships among the workforce investment system, employers, and community colleges. The primary purpose of Community-Based Job Training Grants is to build the capacity of community colleges to train workers in the skills required to succeed in high-growth, high-demand industries.

The U.S. Department of Labor's Employment and Training Administration has awarded more than $250 million worth of capacity-building grants to community colleges across the country for the purpose of demonstrating successful partnerships for learning. Grants have been used to fund the development of training curricula with local industry, hire qualified faculty, arrange on-the-job experiences with local industry and purchase up-to-date equipment. In addition, some grants have been used to train new and experienced workers in industries identified as high-growth or high-demand with the aim of increasing the retention and earnings of trained workers while meeting employers' needs.
