Video Submission Guidelines
From APEC HRDWG Wiki
Thank you for your interest in submitting video content for the APEC HRD Wiki. The Wiki has several videos that provide information about APEC projects and activities, as well as provide useful help for Wiki users from across the Asia-Pacific region and the globe. This page provides some helpful tips and guidelines to ensure that your video will be easily uploaded to the Wiki and useful for Wiki users.
While these guidelines are important to follow, we understand that they may not be applicable to all video submissions. If you have any questions about the guidelines or whether we would be able to accept your video submission, please contact APECWikiHelp@seiservices.com. Additional standards and guidelines for APEC content can be found at the Wiki Contributor's Guide.
Legal
Ensure that you follow all applicable laws for protecting the privacy of video subjects. Whenever possible, obtain written permission/consent forms from all subjects portrayed in videos. This rule applies especially to videos that portray students or other children.
While APEC has no explicit policy for obtaining consent from video subjects, laws may vary from member to member. For instance, common practice for all videos created in the US mandates written consent be obtained for all videos that portray children.
When submitting a video for uploading on the APEC HRD Wiki, please forward copies of any consent forms obtained in the production of the video.
Technical
When submitting videos, provide all pertinent information as to subject matter, grade level, and APEC member, and a brief description of the video content.
All video files submitted to the APEC HRD Wiki must be in Flash (.FLV) format.
Due to the technical limitations of hosting videos on the APEC HRD Wiki, we ask that longer videos be segmented into shorter clips. Ideally, each clip would be no more than five minutes long, to ensure easy hosting and viewing by users.
Additionally, each video or video segment must be of a manageable size. We request that any submissions be no larger than 500 MB in size. We may need to limit the size of the video clip and will contact you before we do so.
Finally, to ensure accessibility for all APEC HRD Wiki users, we request that videos be submitted with captions or a transcript.
Content
Have clear goals or learning objectives for the video.
Since APEC HRD Wiki users come from a variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, always use clear language in submitted videos. Either British or American English is acceptable for APEC materials.
When viewing online lessons and training materials, shorter videos are often easier to view and will keep the audience’s attention more easily. Try to make videos concise and entertaining.
Animations and graphics that transcend cultural and linguistic divides are useful tools to express one’s point to a diverse audience. Utilize such non-verbal content as much as possible.
Viewers may pay more attention when there is a story to follow, especially if the same characters are involved.
Be culturally sensitive; avoid things that could appear to be stereotyping.
Be careful with humor so that it does not appear to be directed at someone.
Be aware of technology you show in the video as it may become outdated by the time the video is available for viewing. Looking current will help keep attention.
Sound quality is as important as video quality. Be aware of external noise, especially in groups or outdoor situations, and be sure to use appropriate microphones in order to make sure the primary speaker is heard clearly.
